SHARK TANK, BY ABC, SAISON 5, 2012

FOUNDER, PRESIDENT & CEO

Moussa Abouka was born in the Sahara (Agadez), in northern Niger. His father was a mathematician and researcher in the field of raw materials. He built his first garage at the age of 10 in his parents’ house, mainly to create, dismantle, or repair all kinds of electronic or mechanical objects. Since then, he has continued to invent and has brought more than 190 ideas to fruition. His sole mission is to improve people’s comfort. This Tuareg visionary has retained all the strength and philosophy of his ancestors, the Tuaregs. He comes from the Tuareg people. The Tuareg language is known as Tamajaq and its alphabet as Tifinagh. The Tuaregs are better known as the “blue men” of the Sahara because of the indigo-colored turban (cheche) they traditionally wear, which stains their skin. For Tuareg men, the desert holds no secrets. They live a nomadic lifestyle, respecting nature and the Ténéré. They are a proud people who live according to a code of honor. They are great thinkers and philosophers. In Tuareg culture, ideas are often expressed in the form of poems…

Moussa Abouka is one of those children raised to become Tuareg men. But this Targui was not quite like his brothers and sisters. As a child, he was very quiet. He often kept to himself and tried to understand things. He was so impressed by inventors that one question kept nagging at him: “But how did they do it?” As a child, he loved sports and taught himself to play music. However, he was not interested in school. Admittedly, his logical mind allowed him to understand many things, but he refused to learn what a man said; he had to be shown. It’s true that even as a child, he was different. He had an iron will and didn’t need much to be happy: helping people, listening… dreaming, inventing, thinking, playing sports.
Today, that child has grown into a man. Deep down, he has remained a Tuareg: a proud thinker, a philosopher, living in harmony with nature and humanity. Moussa has visited more than 45 countries, which has helped him retain his nomadic spirit and enriched him through his travels, his exposure to different cultures, and his encounters with different people. He graduated from engineering school (INP Grenoble), which allowed him to express his ideas. A visionary who is completely anti-establishment and lives off the beaten track, he built his businesses alone. For him, few entrepreneurs are truly free. A creative mind confined to a framework becomes limited. He needs to remain free in his thoughts in order to innovate and create, in the hope of leaving his mark and legacy for future generations.

NTEK was founded by Moussa Abouka, a visionary engineer and internationally recognized inventor. With a career marked by innovations in industrial and technological fields, he is behind several products that are now sold worldwide. Among his iconic inventions is the adjustable weight vest, sold in over 100 countries by prestigious sports brands such as Nike and Adidas. In 2020, he obtained an international patent for a zero-impact treadmill, revolutionizing the approach to sports training. His products and services embody a forward-thinking vision and a constant desire to push the boundaries of technology in the service of well-being and sustainability.
